3 ways to win through Failure

Failure is inevitable. That’s the truth. And what is even more true is that everyone’s definition of what failure may be in their lives is different. For some, failure may be dropping out of college or experiencing a bad break-up and for others, failure may be not reaching a financial goal or simply not waking up on time for the day. No matter what you may consider as failure, there is one thing you can be sure about and it is this: Failure makes winning feel so much better.

If you find yourself in a place in life where you feel like everything you do works against you or that your big break will never come, take these three things into consideration.

  1. Don’t take it personal.

When you take a failure personal, you are setting yourself up to continue to fail. So what, it didn’t work out for you this time around. But what if next time, you succeed and you get to feel the release of excitement that winning brings? Yes, your life is yours for the living and all that you experience causes you to react to what happens to you based on your personal vantage point. But consider the idea that every event, whether good or bad is getting you exactly where you need to be in life. Everything is working out for your good.

  1. Don’t dwell on the negative.

Negativity begets negativity. What you think about you bring about. The next time you get upset when things don’t pan out the way you had hoped, allow yourself a set amount of time to feel the emotion of defeat and then move on. Seriously! Set a timer for an hour. During that hour you get to cry, scream, pout and sulk about whatever you desire and then once the timer goes off, you have to end your pity party. Get up. Wash your face and move on to the next part of your life’s journey. You need time to process your emotions but right after, you have to get back in the game.

  1. Don’t forsake the perspective of others.

One of the best traits of a strong person is their ability to ask for help. That’s strength. Sometimes life can cause you to become jaded and bias toward your situation to the point where you cannot see anything differently. This is where you need a fresh set of eyes to take a look at what you have so they can help you see what you cannot see on your own. By nature, people love to feel wanted and needed. Let someone you trust know when you need them to step in and be your centering block.

Life is what you make of it. The key to having success is knowing when to stay in the fight and when to get out of the ring. Michael Jordan said, “You only miss 100% of the shots you do not take.” And he was right. Failure is only failure when you give up before you try.
